Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Typesetter to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all typesetting tasks are completed with accuracy, consistency, and to the highest standards. You will work closely with editors, designers, and production managers to format, adjust, and prepare manuscripts for digital and print publishing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Typesetting & Layout Design: Format and arrange text, images, and other elements into visually appealing layouts, ensuring a professional and polished presentation across various media.
  • Proofreading & Quality Control: Review proofs for consistency, accuracy, and alignment with project guidelines, ensuring all fonts, spacing, and formatting meet specified requirements.
  • Document Preparation: Prepare documents for final production, including conversion of manuscripts into appropriate file formats (e.g., PDF, InDesign) for print or digital publishing.
  • Collaboration with Team: Work with editors, designers, and project managers to understand the project vision and deliver layouts that meet client specifications and production deadlines.
  • Font Management & Styling: Select and implement appropriate fonts, styles, and typesetting conventions to ensure readability and aesthetic appeal.
  • File Management: Maintain organized project files and records, ensuring smooth transitions between stages of production and timely delivery to clients.
  • Technical Skills: Utilize industry-standard software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, QuarkXPress, or other typesetting and layout tools to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting: Resolve any issues related to file compatibility, font discrepancies, or layout challenges that may arise during the production process.
Required Qualifications:
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and other typesetting and layout software.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong eye for detail with the ability to spot and correct errors in typography, layout, and formatting.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including editors, graphic designers, and project managers.
  • Time Management: Proven ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative Mindset: Ability to combine technical typesetting skills with creative flair to produce visually appealing and functional layouts.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with publishing workflows, including print production and digital content formats (eBooks, interactive PDFs, etc.).
  • Additional Skills: Knowledge of HTML/CSS and experience with web-based publishing platforms is a plus.
