Job Title: Underwriter Division: MAP Risks Reports To: Focus Group Leader - US Political Risk & Trade Credit Key Relationships: Brokers, underwriters, claims staff, other staff Job Summary: To underwrite a Political Risk & Trade Credit account within the MAP Risks team and provide counsel and advice on underwriting related issues. Provide technical expertise in this business area and maintain and improve market reputation of the Beazley brand. General Contribute to the continued profitable growth of the US Political Risk & Trade Credit business. Master and leverage Beazley's underwriting appetite, policies, and guidelines to compete for business in the market. Independently develop relationships with brokers, solicit submissions, and leverage networking opportunities within the business. Develop expert knowledge of internal underwriting systems and maintain internal systems/files with minimal supervision. Prepare and issue quotes and invoices. Work closely with global peers within Political Risk & Trade Credit and MAP Risks to maximize business opportunities and profitability within the department. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, marketing sources and cross selling opportunities. Share and gather knowledge within the Beazley Group to ensure dissemination of best practice and maximize business opportunities and profitability across the Group. Production of presentations and marketing literature as required. Production of business plans/research documents for the Political Risk & Trade Credit account as required. Key Responsibilities: Underwriting Contribute to the Development and underwriting of a profitable portfolio of Political Risk & Trade Credit business as part of the MAP Risks team. Process invoices, maintain policy & underwriting systems, and manage administrative task in support of the US Political Risk & Trade Credit team. Conduct thorough underwriting analysis of risks and structure tailor-made insurance solutions by deploying team underwriting appetite and underwriting policy to win new and retain existing business. Monitor aggregates, premiums, costs and claims ratios per contract and take corrective measures if necessary to ensure long term profitability at account level. Review wordings in coordination with the US Political Risk & Trade Credit team Evaluate appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitability, using rating models as applicable. Develop expert knowledge of internal underwriting systems. Maintain underwriting systems, underwriting files, and finance systems with minimal supervision Monitor peer underwriters in their daily work to ensure profitability as well as efficient and cost effective administration of the Political Risk & Trade Credit account.
