Responsibilities
The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care and assists with departmental organizational activities. Facilitates the communication needs of the department. Enters and transcribes physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE) with notation and signature by nursing staff. Prepares and compiles records in the Perinatal Unit. Completes log book entries as needed. Contacts physician offices, patients and other departments as needed to facilitate patient care in the department. Orders supplies and forms for the unit, prepares and completes each patient chart in a timely manner. Assists nursing staff with restocking of the patient room after patient transfer/discharge. Accurately enters information into the hospital computer systems and the department QS Electronic Medical Record system. Able to assist nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014. 2. Medical terminology preferred. 3. Current BLS (AHA) certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current. 4. Previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office preferred. 5. Experience using computers for word processing, database management preferred.
