DESCRIPTION

The University Safety Official will patrol assigned area(s)(on campus or remote site), to ensure the safety of residents/tenants, their property, and university owned and/or controlled assets. Act as an intermediary for Police by enforcing policy, regulations (housing or site specific), and hazards. Position involves a high degree of public contact, responsibility, and community service (e.g., public information, escorts, general crime prevention, lock-out assistance, public/presentations). Observe and report criminal activity to the police, and make private persons arrests as required. Give direction and assistance and perform other duties as assigned.

* Must be able to work variable schedules including rotating 4 day/week & 10 hour/night shift. Must be available to work overtime as needed, including hours outside of normal shift hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Proven knowledge of and experience enforcing rules and regulations, security policies and procedures, rights of citizens and/or applicable state and local laws.

* Demonstrated ability to serve and work well with citizens, peers and superiors. Demonstrated experience communicating in a helpful, effective and professional manner.

* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and abilities to effectively relay rules, regulations, policies and directives.

* Demonstrated experience patrolling assigned areas for safety. Ability to spend long hours on foot patrol of buildings, grounds, etc.

* Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional and impartial stance in all situations, especially emergencies. Ability to handle a high degree of public contact responsibility.

* Skill to accurately complete various reports and forms.

* Proven ability to use personal computers, printers and word-processing and database software (e.g., Word and Outlook) in a networked environment.

* Demonstrated experience and ability to document information and maintain accurate records.

* Proven ability to exercise proper discretion and confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in all circumstances.

* Demonstrated ability to accept instructions and direction from superiors in a positive and loyal manner.

* Proven ability to prioritize tasks and independently organize available work time to meet assigned responsibilities.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with all types of individuals in both written and verbal forms. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, and proofreading methods. Experience with speaking and presenting information to small and large diverse groups.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

* Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

* Candidates will be fingerprinted and have background investigations which may include medical and psychological examinations and drug testing.

* Required to possess and maintain a valid California Driver License.

* Must possess Advanced First-Aid and CPR certification within one year of hire.

* Must meet CANRA compliance requirement per California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act ( CANRA, Penal Code sections 11164-11174.4).

* Must be able to work rotating shifts, day, swing, or night hours (including alternate schedules), and in all inclement and diverse weather conditions.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $49,882 - $65,772 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $23.89 - $31.50

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
