Position: Art Teacher Reports to: Director of Fine ArtsDivision: Fine Arts, US FLSA Status: ExemptEmployed: Full Time, 10 mths Direct Reports: noneJob SummaryBrookstone School seeks an engaging, energetic Art teacher to complete the 2024-2025 school year, who will encourage our students (grades 9-12) to develop their aesthetic understanding and appreciation while simultaneously developing their artistic skills and talents. Reporting to the Director of Fine Arts, the teacher will work closely with the Fine Arts department and Upper School faculty, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver art lessons that align with the school's curriculum and educational standards.
  • Teach students about various art techniques, styles, and mediums.
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression in students through art projects and assignments.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, tests, and projects.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate with parents about their child's progress.
  • Create a safe and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and creativity.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into other subjects and school-wide events.
  • Contribute to the cohesion, continuity, and rigor of the Fine Arts department
  • Stay up-to-date with new art techniques, technologies, and trends to enhance teaching methods and student learning.
  • Participate in school-wide events and activities, such as art shows, exhibitions, the Spring Arts Festival, and performances.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Teach five classes and possess the ability and skills to successfully teach beginner/intermediate/advanced level art to high school students
Key QualificationsEducation:
  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education or related field, Master's degree preferred
  • AP Art certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Additional Skills/Abilities:
  • Possess a strong background in art and an enthusiasm for working with high school students
  • Demonstrate an approachable, consistent, transparent, supportive, and good-humored posture
  • Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and individuals inside and outside the school
  • Demonstrate a passion for sharing best practice pedagogy in the field
  • Be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning
  • Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school's mission and vision
  • Teachable and committed to grow, learn, and develop new understanding and skills
Physical RequirementsWork schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:45 PM.
