Compensation Type: HourlyCompensation: $12.00Job SummaryPurpose of Position:Upward Bound Student Tutors are responsible for providing academic support for high school students with the goal of improving participant grades in core classes.This position is open to students with or without Federal Work Study eligibility. Duties and Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities, covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements.Duties are numbered for convenience, and do not indicate order in terms of importance, frequency that the duty is performed, or the amount of time spent on the duty.1) Provide individual and group tutoring for participants2) Assist participants with study methods and test taking strategies 3) Communicate behavior issues and other areas requiring attention to UB admin staff4) Participate in meetings and other sessions as needed5) Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.6) Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.7) Work a consistent, reliable schedule and exhibits regular and punctual attendance.8) Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of: Desired tutoring subject(s).Skill in: Verbal and written communication; organization; customer service; conflict resolution; application of job software including MS Office suite and MS Teams for virtual tutoring; planning and scheduling.Ability to: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, participants, general public, and with persons of varying cultures and diversity; work independently demonstrating initiative; maintain confidential and sensitive information; use good judgment; problem solve effectively; apply analytical thinking; maintain accurate and complete work records.Minimum/General Qualifications:This position requires that any applicant be enrolled as a current student at Columbus State in three or more credit hours in a degree or certificate seeking program. Visit for a full explanation of eligibility requirements for student employment at Columbus State.ORThis position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Visit for a full explanation of eligibility requirements or visit Nestor Hall 113 to request Federal Work Study if you were not awarded it already. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.Schedule: TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between program hours of:
  • Tuesday & Wednesday - 3:00-5:00pm (on-campus)
  • Tuesday & Wednesday - 6:00-7:30pm (virtual)
  • Thursday - 3:30-5:30pm (virtual)
Maximum 20 hours per week.Work will be performed: Hybrid of Remote and On-Site.Pathways/Majors that may be interested in this position:Open to all Pathways and Majors.Position Specific Qualifications:
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
  • Has received an A or B in the desired tutoring subject(s)
  • Has a recommendation from a faculty member
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Has completed at least one full semester at CSCC
  • Experience tutoring
  • Experience working with high school students
