Job Title: Urban Farmer

Job Location: 1855 Kavanaugh Street, Baltimore City, 21217

Hours: 20 Hours a week

Nature of work: As an Urban Farmer your work at Strength to Love II (S2L2) helps implement sustainable urban farming practices and techniques. You will work alongside S2L2 staff, management, and volunteers by participating in all daily tasks and projects. These projects will include but not limited to, land preparation, seed selections, sowing/seed planting, irrigation, fertilizer management, weeding, harvesting and produce preparation, and composting.

As an Urban Farmer you will be expected to practice good customer service, leadership, run farmers market stands, work with youth farmers, and volunteers. You will be expected to learn how to update logs in Google Documents, inventory management, and point-of-sale (POS) transactions. As an Urban Farmer you will assist in leading volunteer, community service and development activities and projects, which will require interacting and communicating with various individuals in and outside of the community.

Job duties:

? Farming with planting, harvesting, and upkeep of 1.5-acre farm

? Assist with general field observation and high tunnel greenhouse maintenance

? Assist with operating, managing equipment, lift packages up to 50 lbs

? Lead independent projects on the farm and in the community

? Participate in team meetings and projects

? Work outdoors in seasonal weather and inclement weather

? Interact positively and with compassion with team members and volunteers

? Communicate clearly with rest of team and volunteers

? Follow all policies and procedures of the farm operations

Qualifications:

? Ability to work independently

? Ability to lift 50 lbs

? Able to work in inclement weather

? Able to work in a team setting

? Able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment

? Able to communicate effectively with all clients and partnerships

Knowledge:

? Experience working on a farm or in a garden

? Experience working with and in racially and culturally diverse communities

Skills and Abilities:

? Demonstrate ability to show accuracy, timeliness and follow-up on tasks

? Ability to interact positively with coworkers, partners, businesses, and volunteers

? Strong communication skillsi.e., demonstrated ability to express thoughts, perceptions, and ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, including editing and creating original materials

About Intersection of Change and Strength to Love II

Intersection of Change is a community nonprofit dedicated to addressing poverty related issues in west Baltimore. The organization operates multiple programs including Strength to Love II (S2L2) which operates a 1.5-acre urban farm in west Baltimore's Sandtown- Winchester community to offer employment to citizens returning to the community from incarceration.

The Strength to Love II farm includes 14 greenhouses and uses environmentally sustainable methods to grow high quality produce for local consumption, address community food apartheid issues, and offers employment to ex-offenders and underserved populations. S2L2 sells its produce at a local community market, local restaurants, and farmers markets.
