Learn more about our culture.About The JobWe are seeking an experienced and dedicated Urban Forester/Arborist with 3+ years of experience in urban forestry or arboriculture to join our team. Based primarily in Los Angeles County, CA, this position involves frequent travel across Southern California.Key responsibilities include conducting peer reviews of arborist reports, performing plan check reviews, and providing expert guidance on tree-related matters to support urban forestry initiatives and ensure compliance with local regulations. The role also requires extended fieldwork in both urban and rural environments, often involving long days and the ability to carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.In addition to fieldwork, this position includes preparing monitoring reports, memos, and arborist reports. Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
  • Tree Inventories
  • Tree Risk Assessment and Reporting
  • Tree health and structural assessments
  • Perform detailed plan check reviews for tree preservation, removal, and planting in accordance with city ordinances, policies, and guidelines.
  • Provide arboricultural expertise on development projects, ensuring tree health and sustainability are prioritized.
  • Conduct site visits to assess tree conditions, verify compliance with approved plans, and inspect for potential risks.
  • Collaborate with city staff, contractors, and developers to address tree-related issues and resolve conflicts.
  • Construction monitoring
  • Assistance with various aspects of larger urban forestry projects
  • Prepare letters, reports, and other documents in support of project submittals.
  • Work within a team toward project and group goals.
  • Communicate with team members, clients, agencies and other, as needed, to fulfill contract obligations.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in municipal arboriculture, urban forestry, or related fields.
  • BS in forestry or closely related field or formal training in arboriculture or urban tree management.
  • ISA Certified Arborist Credential
  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
  • Ability to work independently, conduct site visits, and provide timely feedback on plans.
  • Strong understanding of construction impacts on trees, including mitigation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of tree biology, risk assessment, pest and disease management, and tree preservation during construction.
  • Familiarity with municipal arboriculture
  • Pest Control Advisor Credential or ability to obtain given adequate time
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong tree identification and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work loads
  • Other skills including technical writing, verbal and written communication, demonstrated leadership, organization, and problem solving will be helpful in this role.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment

  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.
