Position Overview: Spencer Thomas Group (STG) is currently looking to add to our team of consultants under our Payroll/Accountant Consulting Practice We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Payroll Forensic Accountant to examine payroll accounting processes and data files to identify and document discrepancies, root causes and recommendation for resolution. This ideal candidate for this role requires a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll accounting, forensic accounting techniques, and the ability to communicate findings effectively. Responsibilities:
  • Audit historical payroll accounting data and document findings.
  • Communicate audit findings to stakeholders and provide detailed root cause analysis of any discrepancies and irregularities and recommend action steps for resolution.
  • Assess end-to-end administrative processes and ecosystem to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (i.e., payroll, accounting, finance) to develop and implement changes and controls to prevent future discrepancies.
Required Qualification(s):
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in payroll accounting or forensic accounting.
  • prior experience of 3 years minimum in a Big 4 Audit firm (or BDO-RSM-Grant Thornton-Baker Tilly) seems a prerequisite.
  • Minimum 10-15 years total experience.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualification(s):
  • Experience with ADP payroll systems and SAP accounting software.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to multi-employer payroll and financial reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
  • Ability to be onsite, Lower Manhattan, NYC, NY
Duration: This is a project-based consulting opportunity with a start date of February 3, 2025 with an initial duration through May 31, 2025 , with the possibility of extending.
