Position Purpose The Material Handler - Microelements is responsible for the safe handling, storage, and distribution of microelements, such as vitamins, minerals, and other small-scale ingredients essential for pet food production. This role ensures precise inventory control, accurate delivery to production lines, and adherence to quality and safety standards to maintain product integrity and compliance with regulatory guidelines. Requirements

  • 1st Shift hours are Monday through Friday 6am to 2pm. There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.
Education and Experience:
  • 2 or more years Forklift experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in material handling, especially with microingredients or sensitive materials, is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety standards and GMPs is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate measurement and handling of microelements.
  • Basic math and computer skills for inventory tracking and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems is preferred.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • HACCP or GMP training is a plus.
  • Forklift certification (if handling microelement shipments or using equipment for transportation).
Work Environment:
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and potentially temperature- or humidity-controlled storage areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and Storage of Microelements:
  • Receive and inspect shipments of microelements for accuracy and quality, verifying against purchase orders.
  • Ensure proper labeling and documentation of all microelements upon receipt for traceability.
  • Store microelements in designated temperature- or humidity-controlled areas to prevent degradation.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for all microelements, updating inventory management systems regularly.
  • Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with full inventory audits to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report potential shortages or discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Distribution to Production Lines:
  • Accurately measure and deliver specified quantities of microelements to production areas based on formulations and schedules.
  • Ensure all microelements are handled carefully to prevent contamination or loss.
  • Collaborate closely with production staff to meet ingredient needs and avoid delays in manufacturing.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling procedures for microelements.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area to prevent cross-contamination or other safety hazards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Record the movement and usage of microelements accurately in production logs and inventory systems.
  • Report any quality concerns, spills, or deviations immediately to supervisors or quality assurance teams.
  • Assist with documentation required for audits or regulatory compliance.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
  • Operate scales, mixers, and other equipment used for weighing and handling microelements.
  • Perform pre-operation checks on handling equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • General Support:
  • Support other material handling tasks as needed, including housekeeping and organization of storage areas.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge of microelement handling and safety.
