Salary : $48,630.40 - $77,812.80 Annually Location : Punta Gorda, FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 21307 Department: Utilities Division: Water Distribution Opening Date: 05/01/2024 DescriptionPosition Summary: An entry level supervisory position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution facilities and systems. Example Of DutiesEssential FUNCTIONS AND DUTIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
  • Assists in the repair of water lines and other related appurtenances.
  • Assists in the maintenance of water lines and related appurtenances.
  • Assists in the construction of water lines and related appurtenances.
  • Sets up work zones and ensures work zone is managed safely.
  • Ensures that job site clean-ups are performed effectively.
  • Operates equipment such as Backhoe, Trencher and Loader.
  • Ensures that the crew keeps truck and other assigned equipment fueled.
  • Ensures that the crew cleans truck and other assigned equipment.
  • Ensures that stocked fittings are organized in truck.
  • Assists other divisions/departments when directed by Senior Crew Chief or Supervisor.
  • Carries the after-hours pager when scheduled.
  • Operates and maintains small, medium, and large construction equipment.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of materials, practices, and equipment used in water distribution system construction, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with operating light, medium, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools. Basic working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, structural, and utility materials, including practical application.
  • Skill in the operation of equipment used in water system construction, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries, after-hours emergencies, and complaints.
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with other members of utility crews.
  • Able to read and interpret plans, blueprints, manuals, and diagrams.
  • Able to perform general math calculations including formulas.
  • Able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.
  • Able to work effectively either alone or in a group situation.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate highly desirable, but not required.
  • Must have at least 4 years' experience in similar type of work.
  • Valid Florida driver's license required, Class A CDL.
  • Must have a Water Distribution License 1.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Occasionally may be asked to oversee the activities of Utilities Maintenance Worker I, II, and III personnel or act as Senior Crew Chief.
