Visit JacksonvilleNC to learn more about what to do in the City of Jacksonville.Utilities Maintenance Division: The mission of the Utilities Maintenance Division is to provide responsible operation and maintenance of the water and sewer lines, fire hydrants, valves, manholes, and lift stations to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jacksonville.General Description: The City of Jacksonville is seeking a water lines and wastewater lines professional to work in the Utilities Maintenance Division. As a Lines Maintenance Equipment Operator with this position you will primarily be working on a jet truck. You will be responsible for assembling tubes to vacuum sewer lines. You will also assist in the other sections to help with water and sewer leak repairs. This will consist of the use of shovels, tamps, power tools etc. The Equipment Operator performs intermediate semiskilled work in the regular operation of the Jet Truck and light construction equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $33,860.76 - $44,018.98 depending on qualifications. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Operating mowers and light construction equipment in the performance of landscaping and maintenance and repair tasks.(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Operates mini excavator, backhoe, front loader, tandem dump trucks, bucket truck and related equipment in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and utility lines.
  • Operates commercial sewer jet trucks
  • Mows public rights-of-way and around public buildings.
  • Operates large and small mechanized mowers and push mowers in performance of tasks.
  • Uses weed eaters to cut ditch banks.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • Trims and mulches trees and shrubs.
  • Grinds tree stumps.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
Required Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.A Class B CDL is required for this position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating mowers and light construction equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Equal Employment OpportunityThe City of Jacksonville is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
