Examples of DutiesMaintains, repairs, dismantles and overhauls varied plant equipment such as bar screens, grit collectors, conveyors, mechanical grinders, pumps, engines and blowers, gas and air compressors, ventilation systems and chlorinators.Performs complete overhaul of treatment plant machinery and equipment, including chlorinators, evaporators, chemical feeders, conveyors and pumps of all types.Maintains large filters involving adjusting and installing control valves and units; replaces high pressure steam lines and works on return lines and installs valves.Makes major and minor repairs to water mains and pumps sewage treatment plant on a relief basis or as needed; may be required to operate a treatment plant. Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and considerable mechanical maintenance including the repair and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment and pumping equipment.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of water and wastewater treatment and pump station equipment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; ability to determine improper operation of water and wastewater pumping and treatment equipment, and to take proper remedial action; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to supervise the work of skilled helpers; ability to work under adverse conditions.Supplemental Information Possession of a valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Drivers License or ability to acquire one within 6 monthsOn call work required.Hard-To-Fill Sign-On IncentiveThis position has been designated by the City Manager as hard-to-fill and eligible for a one-time sign-on incentive.
