Essential Functions CITY OF HENDERSON, KENTUCKYCLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONCLASSIFICATION TITLE: UTILITIES SERVICERPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to turn on/off electric, gas, and water meters, provide customer service, initiate corrective action for utility service problems/complaints, and collect late payments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.•Turns electric and water meters on/off as directed; turns gas meters off as directed; cuts off utilities for non-payment, return checks, and upon customer request.•Serves as customer service representative for the department; responds to customer inquiries/complaints, provides information, initiates corrective action, takes/relays messages or refers as appropriate; re-reads meters in response to customer complaints; delivers unsigned checks, bills, or close out notices to customers as needed; collects payments from customers.•Reads routes and meter readings; locates water meters; runs re-read tickets on meter readings; installs electric meters; pumps out flooded water meters; detects water and gas leaks; installs electric meters for temporary service at construction sites; replaces broken electric meters; removes electric meters from condemned houses or in the event of demolition; delivers meters to appropriate service personnel for testing.•Digs up water meters and marks with flag; marks location codes for inputting by office personnel; assists office personnel with location of meters, names, and addresses and corrects errors.•Checks close outs to ensure that they remained turned off until payment of bills; notifies appropriate personnel of suspected tampering; reconnects meters that have been cut off.•Mails bills, pays postage, and picks up deliveries from post office as directed.•Assists all city departments with utility problems; provides first response to water, gas, and electric problems; channels problems to appropriate departments.•Trains new meter readers.•Operates a variety of machinery and equipment in the performance of duties, such as a service truck, water pump, metal detector, handheld computer, adding machine, two-way radio, PC, probe, pickax, bolt cutter, and hand tools.•Works On-Call as scheduled; responds to calls regarding water leaks, reconnects, and other emergencies that occur after hours and on holidays or weekends.•Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson is required.•Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving meter reading work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. PERFORMANCE APTITUDESData Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data.
