Summary: Under general supervision of the Water Maintenance Supervisor, the Utility Technician performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain and repair water/wastewater facilities and system lines. Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and experience equivalent to one (1) year of full-time construction and/or maintenance work involving medium and heavy equipment.Must be able to travel and attend required trainings and meetings and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must complete and pass a background check.The ideal candidate will have experience operating and maintaining water and/or wastewater systems. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's license and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements.Must complete and pass a background check. Grade 1 Distribution and wastewater collection Certification from ITCA or ADEQ within 1 ½years of hire. Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 75 lbs.

Examples of Duties:
- Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled activities associated with water and wastewater line maintenance and repair, including locating (Blue Stake) water and wastewater lines and breaks, and tapping water and sewer main lines.
- Operates a variety of medium to heavy equipment, including backhoe, front-end loader, forklift skid steer, augers, trenchers, excavators, water truck, vac truck crane and jetter, hand and power tools and other ancillary equipment.
- Cleans and maintains sewer lines, manholes, and life stations using a variety of equipment.
- Reads water meters or flow meters on assigned routes, determines consistency of meter readings, and reports unusual readings to the supervisor.
- Turns water service on/off when necessary to ensure efficient, effective customer service.
- Provides maintenance and repair of water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems and reclaimed water distribution systems, service lines and main lines.
- Locates water and wastewater lines including respond to Blue Stake requests.
- Pumps out grease inceptors, wet wells, basins, port-a-johns, etc. when requested by management.
- Reads system maps and diagrams, and technical and operation manuals.
- Complies with the Tribal Occupational Safety & Health Act (TOSHA) and follows the Community's and the Department's safety and health related policies and procedures.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of material, practices, and equipment used in water and wastewater transmission systems maintenance/repair activities.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater transmission systems to include locating and marking (Blue Stake) water and wastewater lines prior to digging.
- Knowledge of the uses, operation and care of various water and wastewater system maintenance/repair related equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating heavy/medium equipment and for water/wastewater public utility maintenance.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and materials used in water and wastewater repair/maintenance, and/or sewer inspections/cleaning work.
- Knowledge of the basic techniques and procedures for collecting water and wastewater samples.
- Knowledge of the basic techniques and procedures for reading water and effluent flow meters.
- Knowledge of MS Office for Windows.
- Skill in operating and maintaining a variety of heavy/medium water and wastewater maintenance, repair, inspection, and/or cleaning equipment.
- Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and Community residents.
- Skill in operating and maintaining assigned power equipment.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to travel and attend required trainings and meetings.
- Ability to generate and maintain computer-based reports and maintenance logs.
- Ability to lift at least 75 lbs.
- Ability and willingness to be on call after hours, holidays and weekends for work as scheduled or necessary.
