LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSNoneDISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICSUnder general supervision, performs various clerical duties related to collection, disbursement and recording of utility payments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Keys payment into computer and prints receipt. Checks account number, name, address, amount, and other information to assure posting of payment to correct account. Accepts and posts to accounts various types of miscellaneous charges.Opens and closes accounts. Takes application information for customer new accounts. Schedules and processes service orders. Scans documents to accounts.Answers phones and customer inquiries about accounts and resolves routine problems.Performs daily open and closing procedures.Processes cash deposits, credit card payments and online payments.Enters returned check notices within the city financial softwareEnters billing data into the city financial software from agencies for vouchers and other correspondence as needed.Balances cash drawer on a daily basis and updates computer for next day's payments.Processes mail. Processes the night drop payments and credits the applicable accounts. Communicates in person with public to process account information at the walk-in window and drive-thru.Processes water and sewer tap applications. After application period, applications will be reviewed by the Civil Service Commission to determine whether applicant meets the minimum qualifications to proceed in this process. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of this review.Eligible ListApplicants meeting the minimum qualifications review, meeting the typing requirement of 30 words per minute (wpm) with no more than 10 errors, and attaining a passing score of 70% on the computerized exam will have their names on an eligible list. The list will be arranged according to computerized examination scores from highest to lowest.Military CreditApplicants who have bene honorably discharged from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible for additional credit of 20% on their exam provided a passing score is obtained. Copy of honorable discharge or Form DD214 showing honorable discharge must be submitted before exam. No credit is awarded if proof of honorable discharge is submitted after the examination date.ExaminationThe civil service exam for Utility Billing Clerk I consists of two parts: a typing test and a written exam. Both tests have time requirements. Applicants must meet requirements on all parts to proceed to the eligible list.Computerized exam will consist of Windows 10, record locating, and math skills.Special NoteApplicants having any disability that would require special testing arrangements for the written exam should notify the Civil Service Office regarding the need for special accommodations.Must pass a pre-employment polygraph, physical/drug screen and background check.Documents to Upload
