The high voltage utility overhead lineman is skilled in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground distribution systems.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Work new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized overhead and underground distribution systems based off receiving and following directionsSafely work and plan new construction, maintenance or repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground distribution systems based off job prints and work ordersCoordinate work assignments, supervise flow, and train new staff in the absence of the foremanWorking knowledge of all aspects of overhead and underground linework, construction standards and installationString overhead wire, set pole with anchors, installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear.Troubleshoot problems in primary and secondary systemsReplace cutout fuses, clear faulted circuits, transfer energized conductors, and phase out lines and circuitsUnderstand basic rigging, handlines, lineman knot tying and induced voltageIdentify primary and secondary voltage on a circuitUnderstand minimum approach distance and ladder requirementsAbility to maintain, check out, position and safely operate bucket truckSafely use gloves, protective gear, and line protection devices to work with live high voltage systemsThese duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may change to meet the priorities and ongoing needs of the company.Qualifications and Requirements:Advanced ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, and proceduresUnderstands equipment set up and groundingHighly proficient in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolution skillsGeneral knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines for energized and de-energized working conditionsCapable of active listening and communicate effectively (written, verbal, and nonverbal)Requires self-motivation, and organizationHigh School Diploma or equivalentTechnical degree, 0-2 years' field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or combination of education and/or experienceCDL A or the ability to obtainOSHA CertificationsPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb; lifts and carry up to 60 lbs, crawl, kneel, push and reach; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel.Work Environment:In performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
