Salary : $43,347.24 - $52,665.60 AnnuallyLocation : Brawley, CAJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202300064Department: Public WorksDivision: Streets and UtilitiesOpening Date: 01/22/2025Closing Date: 1/29/2025 11:59 PM Pacific Description Under direct supervision under the Leadman and/or Utility Worker II, installs water taps, maintaining, repairing and relocating water distributions and sewer collections pipe lines, storm drains and storm basins. Participates and performs a wide variety of maintenance tasks in the construction and repair of streets and relative facilities.Qualification Guidelines Training, Experience and Certifications Requirements: Equivalent to a high school diploma. One to three more years of water distribution and sewer collection maintenance or field operations experience. A Water Distribution Grade 1 Certification is required at the time of appointment. A Sewer Collection System Operations Certificate is also highly desirable and encouraged to obtain. The ability to obtain a valid Class B driver's license within six months of appointment is required.Special Requirements: Position requires possession of a valid Class B California driver license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to work in traffic and intense heat given seasonal conditions. Able to lift 50 lbs. This position requires work to be performed at night or on weekends on a stand-by on-call basis to oversee emergency maintenance operations. Examples of Duties Report to:This position reports to and receives direction from the Streets and Utilities Supervisor or his designee Examples of Duties:
  • Taps, installs, replaces, and relocates water distributions and wastewater collections pipe lines including water and sewer laterals.
  • Repairs water and sewer line breaks.
  • Repairs and replaces and installs new fire hydrants and connects service water lines.
  • Reads and replaces water meters as required.
  • Turns on and off water services as directed by Water Department
  • Repairs and replaces concrete sections for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, ramps and driveways.
  • Installs water lines for temporary services.
  • Uses power equipment and hand tools such as jackhammers, power saws, pipe wrenches, ratchets, concrete saws, generators, cutters, tampers, water pumps, tapping machines, impact tools.
  • Flushes, jets and vacuums main sewer lines and maintains sewer manholes.
  • Performs emergency maintenance work and assists other water and sewer field crews as assigned.
  • Assist with asphalt repairs as directed.
  • Asphalt patching and repairing of residential streets and intersections.
  • Stripping of streets and parking lots, signs repairs and replacements
  • Fog and crack seals city streets

The City of Brawley reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments. Knowledge:Completes tasks assigned to the division in a safe, efficient and professional manner. Has an understanding of the methods and procedures related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection systems. Has an understanding of the proper and safe usage of power tools, construction equipment such as backhoes, rollers, compressors, jack hammers, and other city equipment. Ability to: Complete assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisory staff and work cooperatively with co- workers and other divisional personnel.
