DescriptionUtility Worker I or IIHighlights of the jobWe are hiring a Full Time, Permanent Utility Worker I or II for our Edgewood, NM service area.This individual performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution systems including fire hydrants, main line valves, water service lines, water mains, water meters and fittings, installation of new water services, water system flushing, water quality sampling, flow testing, traffic control, and preventative maintenance activities e.g. valve exercising and fire hydrant inspections. What's required to be successfulAll candidates must have a general understanding of water distribution systems. Must have knowledge of tools and equipment used in the water industry. Knowledge of procedures, materials, tools, equipment and safety hazards and precautions common to water system maintenance is required. All candidates must have a High School diploma or equivalent, and must possess and maintain a valid NM driver license with a good driving record. Utility Worker I requirements: One (1) year qualifying work experience in the water distribution/treatment field. Must have NM Water Supply 1 and/or Distribution Systems level 1 Certification within a year from hire date. Utility Worker II requirements: Two (2) years qualifying work experience in the water distribution/treatment field. Must have NM Water Supply 2 and/or Distribution Systems level 2 Certification. Must have the ability to read and interpret maps of water distribution systems, service orders, and maintenance manuals. Ability to code time cards with up to 50 separate account codes and provide detailed descriptions of work completed. Ability to keep neat and accurate records and make computer entries. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and regulations. Ability to operate equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, valve exerciser, mini-vac unit, and similar equipment. Requires strength to lift heavy objects up to 70 pounds. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various climatic conditions. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers and customers. This position is subject to callback, overtime and weekend/holiday emergency call outs and on-call duty. There are periods of continuous stooping, bending, walking, shoveling and sweeping. May be exposed to insects, animals, reptiles, dust, pollen, chemicals, and water. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat and cold.
