Salary Range$22.44 - $38.64Job SummaryVancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is looking for enthusiastic candidates that are skilled in working with all ages and abilities in a fitness or water exercise environment. As a group instructor, you will represent the City in a capacity to demonstrate and verbally instruct effective aerobic, strengthening, flexibility and balance exercise workout techniques. You will need to set up, monitor class equipment, ensure its return is in serviceable condition, communicate and work well with all program participants, other staff, and any individuals contacted in the course of work. Safety standards and facility policies are to be met at all times.Job DetailsFitness Instructor
  • Previous work, volunteer experience or training with a fitness background and/or group exercise studio conducting group exercise classes.
  • Ability to modify all levels of intensities and motivate class in a fun and friendly manner.
  • Possess exercise training principles, basic choreography, and musicality.
  • Able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis .
  • Previous experience working with people with special needs is desirable.
Water Exercise Instructor
  • Able to demonstrate from the pool deck effective water fitness strategies, incorporating music, tempo, cueing techniques and rhythm.
  • Able to project your voice over pool noise so participants can hear your instructions. A cordless mic is provided.
  • Possess exercise training principles, basic choreography, and musicality.
  • Able to life and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR, First Aid, and AED cards within one month of hire.
  • Fitness and Water Instructor: Must have possession of, or ability to obtain, a National group or water exercise certification (ACE, AEA, AFAA, NETA, or other specialty certification) within six months of hire.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Be at lest 18 years of age.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Respond quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Able to maintain a clam and professional demeanor at all times, including emergencies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to dress code and provide excellent customer service.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, program participant and other City employees.
  • Interact well with a diverse group of program participants
  • Read, write and follow instructions.
  • Monitor compliance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain certifications through continuing education classes and workshops.
