Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.Role OverviewThe Vandalia EHS Leader will provide EHS operational support to the site to ensure first and foremost that we are keeping our team members safe. Additionally, this leader will be working closely with the business to drive implementation of programs to ensure all federal, state, and local EHS regulatory and GE management system requirements are met. The successful candidate must be a proven leader, facilitator, and coach to bring focus, efficiency, and accelerate our preventative program execution.Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate safety metrics for the purpose of prescribing and executing on remedial actions.
  • Communicate with business leaders about site safety measures, via in-person and online meetings.
  • Lead learning teams in response to EHS events and conduct/validate accident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions.
  • Perform EHS audits in support of compliance assurance activities, including internal audits, and provide recommendations to improve audit scores.
  • Provide tactical issue resolutions.
  • Work closely with Operations to identify and address EHS issues related to site operations, equipment and site design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Lead EHS training, provide training materials, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with EHS program implementation, identify gaps, and provide guidance on improvement opportunities.
  • Assure site meets all regulatory obligations for environmental, employee, and building safety.
  • Manage EHS Specialist(s) and EHS Technician(s), which can include oversight of part-time and/or contracted physical therapist(s) and environmental consultant(s).
  • Ensure all employees are informed of, comprehend, and comply with EHS policies and procedures as well as local regulations.
  • Assist with preparing for unannounced audits and inspections by government entities, including but not limited to federal, state, or local municipalities.
  • Manage OSHA incident and injury reporting within specified guidelines, including the management of the Workers' Compensation Program within the team.
  • Assist with accident investigations and analyze root causes to determine and implement safety measures which prevent future incidents.
  • Manage employee safety certifications to ensure compliance.
  • Perform other leadership responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 9 years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing/industrial environment)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics
  • Environmental experience in hazardous waste management, SPCC, No Exposure, NESHAP, Tier II, TRI, etc.
  • Industrial Hygiene including, hearing conservation, respiratory fit testing, asbestos surveillance, IH monitoring and sampling
  • Experience in ergonomics, VPP, process safety knowledge, and working with EHS consultants and contractors
  • Background working with musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic injury prevention programs
  • Ability to form, lead, motivate, and direct a strong and effective team
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Prior electrical safety background
  • Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed
  • Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative
  • Strong organizational, research and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports containing findings and recommendations
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties with accuracy, under time-sensitive deadlines
