The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is seeking enthusiastic applicants who enjoy working in a fast paced and friendly environment. Our Utility Workers are responsible for cleaning and event set-up and with helping us to proudly present our wonderful venue to our guests and clients for each and every event. As a premier convention, tradeshow, conference and event venue leader, our number one role is to provide a memorable experience for both shows and guests - experiences you would help shape.

Utility Workers perform set-up and custodial duties for specified events on an on-call basis. Typically hours may average 8 - 24 hours weekly, but actual hours will vary from week to week and with seasonal event volume.

As the Event Setup & Custodial worker, you will:

* Perform cleaning and sanitary maintenance duties, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash containers throughout the OCC facility.

* Maintain restrooms cleanliness and supplies, ensuring items are stocked during events.

* Set up and break down tables, chairs, bleachers, ramps, dance floors, air walls, staging, and drapes for conventions, meetings, and events using schematic drawings and descriptions.

* Provide directions and answer questions from the public.

* Walk, stand, and work on concrete floors for extended periods.

* Work under time constraints and in the presence of the public.

* Perform tasks that require heavy lifting, moving, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and frequent reaching.

* Work on elevated platforms or ladders.

* Safely and properly operate motorized and mechanical janitorial equipment.

* Understand and follow operating manuals and product application instructions provided by manufacturers.

* Work in a safe manner and adhere to Metro safety policies, practices, and procedures. Become forklift certified within one year.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications:

* High school diploma or GED and

* Two to three years of experience in a similar position; or

* Any combination of education and experience that provides the candidate with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

* Possession of, or the ability to obtain a forklift operator and CPR certificate.

* Must be able to work a variety of shifts to meet the needs of the business and be dependable.

* Must be able to learn the facility's layouts

* Experience in a public assembly facility.

* Experience performing similar job tasks outlined in the job announcement either working in a hotel, convention center, stadium, or theater

* Experience Setting up and tearing down events

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATION

The hourly pay rate for this position is Step 1. $23.81 per hour of the VHE Utility Worker Classification. This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFCSME 3580 union and is classified as a Utility Worker (click to read the full classification).
