Marblehead High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Varsity Head Girls Ice Hockey Coach They will assume responsibility for the entire girls ice hockey program. They will work closely with the athletic department, while supervising assistant coaches. They are responsible for developing and overseeing the entire girls hockey program while fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe environment. They are expected to promote the values of our athletic department which include; teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, commitment, integrity, and responsibility. Additionally, the head varsity coach will manage all fundraising, team dinners and community service initiatives. Below are the essential requirements and responsibilities of the Varsity Head Girls Ice Hockey Coach:
QUALIFICATION
Knowledge of hockey techniques and coaching strategies.
Ability to make practice plans and prepare the team to compete.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Ability to mentor and motivate athletes, providing guidance, feedback, and support to help them achieve their goals
Organizational and management skills, including the ability to schedule and plan practices and events.
Familiarity with MIAA ice hockey rules and regulations.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience playing and coaching high school hockey
Knowledge of common hockey injuries and conditioning/strengthening to help prevent and heal injuries
Leads by example regarding the promotion of sportsmanship
Must complete all Massachusetts coaching requirements, which includes the NFHS Concussion Certificate
Must complete Marblehead School District requirements: Fingerprinting, CORI Background check
Must complete CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
Attend all practices, games, and events, including supervising on the bus to away games.
15-20 hours per week and weekends required
18-20 regular season games, with playoffs to follow, if qualified
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assumes responsibility for the entire program, which includes:
Establish and promote a positive, growth-oriented team culture and climate
Communicate the team's practice and game schedule with the team and parents or guardians.
Plan and supervise daily in-season activities for all season interscholastic hockey program
Supervise and delegate responsibilities appropriately to varsity and sub-varsity program assistant coaches
Implements and follows all MPS and MHS policies
Compliance with MIAA rules and regulations
Assure that out-of-season activities comply with MIAA rules
Verification of student physical examination requirements of the high school
Monitor roster for approved athletic registration and eligibility listing
Communicate with the Athletic Trainer regarding injuries
Assist in the care for and oversees the storage of all equipment and uniforms
Distribute uniforms and collect all uniforms at the end of the season
Prepares award lists and season records
Attends all meetings where the program is involved and operates within the policies of the Marblehead School District
Keeps informed on current trends in the sport and participates in coaching training and clinics
Maintains active membership in related professional organizations
Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in an athletic contest
Maintains a positive staff relationship with other coaches
Participate in Athletic Assembly, meet with parents to inform them about the program and its expectations
Promotes the high school Girls' Hockey program by encouraging participation of players of the upcoming season
Apply and enforce approved student discipline rules during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips
Collaborates with sport-specific booster organizations
Perform other duties as assigned by the Marblehead High School Athletic Director
