  • Must be a Veteran as defined in Minnesota Statutes, Section 197.447
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field such as social work, counseling, or public administration
  • Pass Background Clearance Check
Assist veterans and their dependents in applying for available federal benefits from the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Regional Office (VARO), by initiating, re-opening claims, and/or appealing claims.
  • Complete all service-connected disability/pension claim applications (new, supplemental, and appeal) in a timely manner.
  • Complete claims for VA education and training benefits.
  • Contact the families of deceased veterans to assist with VA burial/survivor benefits.
  • Complete service-connected disabled veteran's life insurance applications for eligible veterans.
  • Ensure all claims are sent to the VA before the last business day of each month to ensure potential benefits are not lost.
  • Record claim information in the approved software program used by the Veteran Services Office (VetraSpec).
  • Correspond with veteran's Power of Attorney (POA) and VA regarding claim status.
Assist veterans in obtaining inpatient and outpatient care from the VA Medical Center (VAMC) and Community-Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC).
  • Complete enrollment applications and mail to the VAMC.
  • Contact the VAMC to schedule appointments, confirm enrollment, and obtain information, when needed.
  • Coordinate with the VAMC to request community, in-home health, and long-term health care, if needed
Assist veterans in applying for benefits from the Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs (MDVA).
  • Complete subsistence, special need, dental and eye care applications for eligible veterans and dependents.
  • Assist veteran and MDVA to ensure required documentation is received in a timely manner.
Assist military retirees, dependents, and survivors in obtaining Department of Defense benefits.
  • Instruct military retirees and their dependents on how to attain and renew an identification card, Tri-Care health plan, retirement pay, annuity pay and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP).
Assist Veterans in records relating to military service.
  • Aid in applying for correction of military records, character of discharge upgrade, and medals/awards.
  • Maintain confidential records and information in accordance with all HIPPA and Privacy Act Regulations.
Attend workshops, conferences, and service organization meetings and training.
  • Knowledge of all federal and state legislative actions concerning veterans and their dependents.
  • Maintain and gain certification by the MDVA.
Assist members of the National Guard and Reserves in obtaining appropriate benefits and assistance.
  • Provide military members and dependents information about VA programs.
  • Provide information to returning deployed service members and their dependents regarding VA benefits.
