Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, New York is looking for Veterinary Assistants who are looking to join a fast paced, forward thinking hospital. Our Veterinary Assistants are the Licensed Veterinary Technician's primary medical support and works with the LVT to complete all tasks required by the veterinarian. The Veterinary Assistant directly assists their team with animal restraint and handling, basic medical tasks, and client interactions. Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D
- Experience working in a veterinary practice preferred but, willing to train the right individual
Physical Requirements:
- Able to be active: sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and crouching for extended periods of time
- Able to work well under pressure and at high levels of stress
- Able to lift 40 pounds
Essential Responsibilities:
- Practice safe patient restraint
- Use practice management software to maintain client and patient records
- Communicate clearly, calmly and effectively with all clients on the phone and in person
- Perform and recognize normal physical exam assessments for canine and feline patients of temperature, heart rate, pulse quality, respiration and mucous membranes.
- Provide excellent nursing care including notation of patient status, eliminations, appetite, etc.
- Perform all in-house/outside laboratory diagnostics and imaging including CT, MRI, X-Ray, etc.
- Troubleshoot errors with In-house laboratory equipment
- Clean and maintain equipment and areas as needed
- Make and present estimates to clients for diagnostics, treatments, and/or hospitalization
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned departments
- Communicating with pharmacies in the interest of filling patient prescriptions per veterinarian's orders
- Maintenance of department inventory and participating in scheduled hospital inventory count
- Sterile processing skills including maintaining and sterilizing surgical instruments and packs
