Vice President of Track Services
The Vice President (VP) of Track Services plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and managing the company's operations in track construction, maintenance, and repair services. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards, while also optimizing the organization's resources and maintaining safety standards. The VP of Track Services will report to the President and often works closely with peers to develop and execute strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the company's long-term track services strategy and sales revenue growth.
- Align departmental goals with broader corporate objectives.
- Identify market trends, business opportunities, and risks that may affect operations.
Project Management Oversight:
- Oversee multiple large & small scale track construction and maintenance projects, including bidding jobs, submitting quotes, timelines, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ability to manage specifications, utilization, and maintenance of track services equipment.
- Ensure that all track construction projects comply with safety regulations, local/state/federal requirements, and environmental standards.
- Resolve issues that may arise during project execution, such as delays, cost overruns, or supply chain disruptions.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
- Develop and execute a sales growth strategy to achieve targets and
- Lead the budgeting process for track construction, maintenance, and repair operations.
- Monitor and control expenses related to track construction and maintenance projects, aiming to maximize cost efficiency while maintaining quality.
- Analyze financial reports and make adjustments to resource allocation as needed.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, lead, and mentor teams of track commercial sales, project & operations mangers, equipment operators, and maintenance staff.
- Develop training programs to ensure staff are up to date on industry best practices, safety protocols, and new technologies.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Customer & Vendor Management:
- Develop and oversee relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Negotiate contracts with customers and ensure that all third-party providers meet performance standards and compliance requirements.
- Ensure that vendor performance is evaluated and that the company receives competitive pricing and quality service.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure that all track construction, maintenance, and repair activities comply with OSHA, FRA and other regulatory bodies' safety standards.
- Promote a safety-first culture and enforce protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with track construction and repair projects.
- Establish contingency plans to address unforeseen issues (e.g., labor shortages, material delays, or unforeseen weather disruptions).
Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for senior executives, customers, and clients on matters related to track services construction, maintenance, and repair operations.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with company goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or an MBA is often preferred.
Experience:
- At least 10-15 years of experience in track construction, maintenance, and repairs, with a proven track record of leadership at an executive or senior management level.
- Extensive experience with project management, budgeting, and large-scale operations.
- Knowledge of relevant software tools (e.g., construction management software, project scheduling software).
Leadership:
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams and guiding teams through complex challenges.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with executives, clients, team members, contractors, and vendors.
Industry Knowledge:
- A deep understanding of track construction processes, materials, technologies, and trends in construction and facility management.
- Familiarity with track construction and maintenance standards, zoning regulations, and environmental laws.
- Expertise in asset management and repair lifecycle strategies.
Financial Acumen:
- Strong budget management and financial analysis skills.
- Ability to understand and optimize cost drivers within track construction and maintenance operations.
Safety Knowledge:
- A strong understanding of safety protocols and OSHA regulations related to track construction, maintenance, and repair work.
