The person in this role will be responsible for providing advocacy for petitioners who seek domestic violence orders for protection. Familiarity of domestic violence dynamics, enthusiasm working with diverse populations,and a good understanding of the various ways those experiencing trauma or its aftermath may behave are key to this role. Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour work week schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is eligible for King County's generous benefits package. Salary: Range 50 -- $35.52 (step one) - $45.02 (step ten) Hourly* Union Membership: Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer. Job Duties This position provides advocacy for petitioners who seek civil protection orders with an emphasis on Domestic Violence Protection Orders to include: Intake and interviews with petitioners; support and assistance in completing protection order forms through the online protection order system; providing general information and assistance to the public on matters related to civil protection orders; accompaniment to court virtually and in-person as requested or appropriate; referral to social service providers and civil legal aid through project safety; professional use of judgment when balancing business priorities required. The Protection Order Advocacy Program receives requests for assistance via email, phone, and in person. The ability to triage and identify the level of need is critical. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to data collection and maintenance, assisting petitioners through our Protection Order portal and providing support for the Race, Equity, and Social Justice policy and principles, working with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • Considerable knowledge of the civil or criminal justice system and experience in the field of domestic violence services required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons in crisis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and across systems and demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem-solve with quick deadlines are a priority.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in counseling, and crisis intervention techniques are required.
  • Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance is required.
  • Ability to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling, and/or action/discipline.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible to changing court processes, team needs, and use of technology.
  • Bilingual candidates and candidates with experience serving LGBTQ+ survivors are strongly encouraged to apply.
