We seek a full-time Visiting Service Specialist to join our Children, Youth and Family Services team. The Visiting Services Specialist will promote the well-being of incarcerated men and support positive outcomes for families. The Visiting Services Specialist will work with men on Rikers Island located at Otis Bantum Correctional Center (OBCC), as well as in the community to provide men and their families with the support they need to navigate the criminal justice system. This position may require weekend and/or evening hours.

Salary Range: $33.00 - $34.50 per hour

Requirements

Essential Duties:

  • Support in-person and video visits between the participants and their family members as needed
  • Provide supportive counseling around parenting for men in NYC DOC custody
  • Collaborate with child welfare agencies to ensure visiting is being held as ordered
  • Conduct one-on-one supportive counseling sessions as needed to focus on individual parenting, discharge planning and service needs
  • Maintain both group and individual records and case notes as needed
  • Provide referrals for incarcerated individuals to promote successful community re-entry
  • Provide referrals to family members in the community to support their involvement in the criminal justice system
  • Document all individual and group work in the appropriate database
  • Coordinate with DOC and MOCJ providers at OBCC to avoid duplication in services and ensure that participants have all of the support they need to successfully reunite with their families
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator on any complex individual or family needs that may arise
  • Participate in all relevant program and CYFS meetings
  • This position may require weekend and/or evening hours
  • Attend required training
  • In-person attendance is required to collaborate with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field; in lieu of a degree Highschool diploma or equivalent, with an additional two years of experience
  • Two to five years of progressive work experience in a social services agency
  • Experience working with adolescents and families

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to travel locally between Osborne offices and NYC DOC facilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, pay strong attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Proficient in database management, Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and build strong relationships
