Primary Purpose:

Provide assistance in classroom, office, and/or school facilities under the direct supervision of a certified teacher or employee of HISD. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

At least 16 years of age.

Have met formal academic assessment, NCCER and/or OSHA preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children and adults.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Experience:

Some experience working with children is preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Support

* Provide assistance to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

* Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

* Assist with administration and objective work assignments.

* Help maintain a neat and orderly workplace.

* Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

* Help keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

* Provide orientation and assistance to the HISD employee assigned.

Management

* Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

* Make the supervisor aware of the special needs or problems of individual students and adults.

Other

* Participate in training programs to improve job performance.

* Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.

* Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

* Other duties as assigned.

None.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
