Job Description :

The Director of Medical Strategy - VP, assumes responsibility for working with medical directors providing oversight and medical leadership. The VP is also responsible for leading new business pitches, developing medical offerings for the department, and is expected to be the day-to-day medical director for multiple accounts. The VP may also have a number of direct reports and, as such, expertise in mentoring and delegating tasks is critical.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSKnowledge/Expertise

Demonstrate depth of understanding for multiple products and disease states; demonstrate the ability to distill the medical and scientific information into strategic insights and actionable ideas for the brand; have deep understanding of our capabilities as well as those of our competitors.

Strategic Skills/Tools

Demonstrate understanding of the strategic imperatives for all brands; combine in-depth scientific understanding of the product and disease state with market awareness to provide high-level communication planning for clients; elevate, expand, and refine strategic offerings of the medical strategy department.

Client Relationships

Lead medically related client interactions across multiple pieces of business.

Business Development

Lead medical research and development efforts for new business pitches.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIESKnowledge/Expertise
  • Critically review content developed by others in the agency, including copywriters, medical directors, art directors, brand strategists, and account leads.
  • Proactively and proficiently provide strategic medical recommendations based on the changing market to enhance brand communications.
  • Keep abreast of new and changing trends in our industry to ensure we provide the most “up-to-date” recommendations for our brands.
  • Strategic Skills/Tools
  • Interact with and, if necessary, lead discussions with internal teams, clients, and HCPs to help meet strategic objectives of the brand.
  • Ensure the medical hook of the brand is pulled through when new content is created.
  • Proactively identify and execute on medical opportunities that contribute to strategic and tactical development.
  • Ensure teams are optimizing the use of data to tell a viable, differentiating story.
  • Facilitate and participate in proprietary workshops.
  • Client Relationships
  • Participate in and contribute to senior leader client meetings and workshops with your account and strategic planning partners.
  • Help to identify and recommend new initiatives that support client communication needs.
  • Business Development
  • Develop medical insights and craft the immersion section of a pitch presentation in collaboration with account and strategic planning partners.
  • Help drive the strategic recommendations for the pitch.
  • EDUCATION

    MS, MD, PhD, PharmD in Clinical / Scientific - Required

    EXPERIENCE

    7+ years of Relevant Industry Experience - Required

  • Clearly communicate medical concepts across multiple pieces of business in a condensed, audience-appropriate way to clients, KOLs, and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Display ability to digest medical and brand strategy insights and communicate a POV in real time.
  • Project confidence as an expert in your assigned brands/therapeutic categories.
  • Communicate resourcing, support, and career growth needs to your manager to ensure success for you and your direct reports.

  • Work collaboratively with senior members of cross-functional and integrated strategy teams to help develop and review strategic deliverables.

  • Actively participate in and contribute to team discussions and planning sessions; provide opportunities for direct reports to do the same as appropriate.

  • Management and Leadership
  • As needed, supervise a team of direct reports: provide guidance on department processes; give ongoing performance feedback; support proactive career management; support constructive interactions with your team's direct reports and cross-functional team members; review work products as appropriate.
  • Instill confidence and build morale by demonstrating true leadership skills above and beyond brand deliverables.
  • Work closely with your manager to ensure appropriate staffing and resources.
  • Review and provide feedback on staffing plans for your assigned accounts and those of your direct reports by reasonably estimating the hours required for specific workflows.

    There are three types of Employee Work Arrangements that classify where a person conducts work: In-Office, Hybrid, and Fully Remote. The amount of time an employee spends working virtually versus in person is dictated by their work arrangement classification, the demands of the role, the needs of the agency and their team, and a person's performance.

    SALARY

    $175,000 - $220,000 annually. The salary range for this position is noted within this job posting. Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee's/applicant's background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
