RoleThe VP of Accounting and Finance analyzes and communicates risk related to interest rates, credit, liquidity, the balance sheet, and the income statement; and directs such functions as budgeting, financial statement preparation/reporting, financial analysis/reporting along with management reports presented to senior management and the Board of Directors. The ability to think strategically, analytically, stay organized in a fast-paced environment with effective written and verbal communication skills is required as this position with engage with vendors, members, and employees at all levels of the credit union.Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the annual budget process including development of assumptions and obtaining key input data from senior management and department managers, estimating revenue and expense items, and performing ongoing variance analyses.
  • Participate in preparing and reviewing the Credit Union's financial reporting. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of the month-end financial reports. Participate in the ALM function, including preparation of ALM modeling.
  • Prepare support schedules, reports, and analyses for our annual tax return, annual audit, and annual regulatory examination.
  • Direct the preparation of the Credit Union's quarterly regulatory filing, annual Federal and State income tax returns, unclaimed property returns, 1099 reporting and provides technical accounting analyses as needed.
  • Assist in managing all finance policies, procedures and processes.
  • Prepare projections, process evaluations, profitability analyses, and product feasability studies. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must be in full compliance with applicable FASB, OTS and SEC pronouncements and regulations, and FDICIA.Knowledge and SkillsExperience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, profitability and cost control principles.
  • Knowledge of finance, forecasting, and modeling.
  • Knowledge of financial services industry, including products and services.
  • knowledge of NCUA, Federal and State financial regulations and compliance.
  • Understand credit union finance policies and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting software and systems.
Education/Certifications/LicensesBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar field of study with relevant prior work experience. CPA or MBA preferred.Interpersonal SkillsA significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with members, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.Other SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel. Strong written and oral communication skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to direct and supervise Team Members. Experience in coordinating or assisting with the budget process. Preparing and/or reviewing projections and pro formas.ADA RequirementsPhysical RequirementsPerform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 15 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of local and area travel as driver. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.Working ConditionsMust be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.Mental and/or Emotional RequirementsMust be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
