SUMMARYThis position coordinates the daily processing of recovery product, ensuring volunteer effectiveness in the evaluating, sorting and packaging of salvage product for distribution. Performance of the following duties is done personally. RequirementsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is not all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
  • Implements recovery projects, directed by the Inventory Manager and supervises work production of the volunteers. The projects are completed by volunteer groups based on supply and demand of product and the type and size of the group to be working. Communicates with fellow staff regarding the recovery projects and the production plan.
  • Training of volunteers to maximize evaluating, sorting and packaging of salvage product for distribution.
  • Orients, motivates and monitors volunteers and ensures that the volunteer experience is pleasurable yielding effective production of finished product. Educates the volunteers on the mission of the Foodbank.
  • Prepares work area for arrival of volunteer groups. This may include use of a tow motor, power pallet jack and hand jack. Conveys materials and items from production areas to storage or to other designated areas.
  • Inspects the work of the volunteers to assure that quality control standards are being honored and applied. Ensures that all salvage guidelines are being met.
  • Manages supplies necessary for sorting of product, requesting products from Supervisor, in a timely manner to the production schedule.
  • If needed, provide assistance at the Partner Distribution Hub or client pantry.
  • Assist is unloading and putting away pantry and warehouse deliveries
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies, including attending and participating in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Maintain high standards of warehouse sanitation and safety at all times.
  • Provides housekeeping services for the building, as directed, or needed/necessary, to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and pest control.
  • Inspect the operating equipment to assure that it is in good working order.
  • Assess daily, that dangerous conditions are removed prior to an accident or injury occurring (i.e., water spill clean-up, etc.).
  • Actively support and champion initiatives aimed at driving continuous improvement throughout the organization. May participate in one of the following: LEAN council, a kaizen, 5S campaign or other process improvement efforts to support continuous improvement and improved processes within the food bank.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
QualificationsHS Diploma/GED preferred. Volunteer coordination and/or experience leading groups or supervising employees preferred. Tow motor and pallet jack experience preferred. Required commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work environment as demonstrated through work, life or community experience.Physical Requirements and Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee will be exposed to cold temperature environment for significant portion of their day.While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend a significant portion of daily time working in cold temperature environments including freezer conditions down to -10 degrees all year round. Cold temperature clothing will be provided and available as needed. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud due to vehicle and compressor noise in the cooler and freezer.Salary Range: $20 per hour Proud to be a North Coast 99 Employer 8 Years in a Row!
