Wastewater Engineer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leading and overseeing water/wastewater engineering design
- Providing design criteria for external engineering firms and review designs for accuracy and compliance
- Applying innovative treatment processes to remove pollutants from water and wastewater, including emerging contaminants
- Developing feasibility study, basis of design, and performance monitoring reports
- Developing engineer's construction cost estimates for treatment systems
- Supporting permitting efforts with local, regional, and federal permitting agencies
- Developing construction documents, including design drawings, specifications, bid forms, and startup plans
- Conducting or overseeing field investigations and construction support services
- Managing multi-disciplinary project teams, including internal and external stakeholders
- Interacting with client representatives and regulatory agencies
Education
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, with emphasis on water or wastewater treatment or closely related discipline. PE preferred but not required
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 5 years (7+ preferred) of direct environmental engineering experience
- Experience leading and/or support water/wastewater treatment design projects
- Experience with biological treatment system design
- Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams
- Proven leadership skills
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to facilities as needed
- Experience working on a variety project types and in a variety of roles (e.g., project engineer and project manager) within an industrial water/wastewater environment
- Experience in the design of systems to handle high strength nutrient loads in an industrial environment
