Salary : $72,030.40 Annually Location : Lubbock, TX Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: W149-6411 Department: Water Utilities and Public Works Division: 6411 - Wastewater Treatment Opening Date: 02/08/2025 Closing Date: 2/21/2025 5:00 PM Central Summary Supervises and coordinates work repairing wastewater treatment equipment; and the procurement, storing, maintenance, and repair of specialized tools and equipment. Assists superintendent with department activities and tasks. Assume superintendent's responsibilities during his or her absence. Essential Functions
- Identify capital equipment needs and provide input on capital improvement programs. Coordinate all activities associated with assigned capital improvement projects;
- Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance of water utility stationary equipment such as treatment plant equipment, pumping equipment, and lift station;
- Prepare and administer operating budget for assigned cost centers;
- Interview, select, supervise, and train section employees;
- Evaluate employee performance, and recommend personnel actions such as merit increase or disciplinary actions;
- Maintain records of repair and maintenance project costs including cost of materials, equipment, and labor;
- Analyze department activities, recommend improvements, and implement approved changes;
- Make recommendations, obtain and maintain compliance with appropriate City, State, and Federal wastewater quality requirements;
- Assist the Superintendent and perform a variety of highly responsible technical and administrative assignments;
- Assume superintendent's responsibilities during his or her absence;
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications Any combination of relevant education, certification and experience which provides the following: completion of a bachelor degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field; and an additional five to ten years technical experience in maintenance and operations or inspection of wastewater system equipment and facilities; and over five years of supervisory experience; and valid current driver's license; and a combination of one or more of the following certifications:
- Water or Wastewater Operator (A is preferred)
- Electrical Tradesman
- Wastewater Collections
*** Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. *** Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of:
- Wastewater utilities equipment operation and maintenance;
- Industrial safety practices;
- Mechanical principles;
- Principles and practices of wastewater treatment.
Ability to:
- Plan and supervise the work of subordinates;
- Cooperate with others;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Prepare and administer a budget;
- Ability to obtain a Texas Class A water or wastewater license;
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
Physical Requirements: maintain the ability to:
- Occasionally walk during the shift;
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
