Salary : $1,498.47 - $2,500.14 Biweekly Location : Miami Beach, FL Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 02325 Department: Public Works Water Opening Date: 10/22/2024 Closing Date: 11/5/2024 5:00 PM Eastern Nature of Work The purpose of this classification is to perform expert level skilled work involving the operation, reading, repair, and calibration of the City of Miami Beach's water distribution and wastewater collection metering systems. Employees in this classification ensure safe working conditions, maintain water flow, and test the water supply. Position reports to the Water Meter Supervisor. Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Removes old meters and reinstalls new meters which may involve excavation, bolt cutting, and other labor.
- Installs meter risers and manifolds to facilitate the accurate reading and future services of meters.
- Replaces valves and water lines which may require excavation of damaged service line up to the main, replacement of meter box and cover, and removal of concrete sidewalk and damaged meter box.
- Completes service orders including final readings, special readings, service turn-ons and turn-offs, and a wide variety of requests from customers, the meter shop, and utility billing staff.
- Uploads and downloads meter route readings and other data; backs-up and stores information on diskettes.
- Issues and prints various billing and usage information, route assignments, services orders, and meter numbers.
- Reads meters using hand-held computer to input data.
- Tests all new meters and old meters.
- Collects water samples and conducts some tests to solve customer complaints; delivers samples to labs.
- Conducts pressure and flow tests of public and private water services and fire hydrants throughout the City.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, and a demonstrated desire to serve the public. Must obtain and maintain a FDEP Level 3 Distribution license or a minimum Florida Class C WTPO license or higher within 18 months of employment to remain employed with the City of Miami Beach.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language.
- This position is a trainee position and promotion to Water Meter Technician C is required with 18 months to remain employed with the City of Miami Beach.
- The only exception would be if an employee is hired with the requirement of obtaining a State of Florida issued license and is assigned duties that do not provide the necessary experience to qualify for licensure.
- The employee will be granted additional time to gain the required experience for licensure provided they have already passed the required examination for licensure and are only waiting for qualifying experience to be licensed.
- Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, operating machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards or toxic agents.
