Salary: $26.53 - $34.49 HourlyLocation : Environmental Services - City of Deerfield Beach, FLJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 01037Department: Environmental ServicesDivision: Water PlantOpening Date: 10/25/2024Closing Date: ContinuousSummary Objective The purpose of this position is to leading assigned projects, leading a work group of two or more operators, maintenance or other workers. May direct the work of laborers and semi-skilled workers engaged in operating equipment and manual labor activitiesThis class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Essential Functions The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
  • Assists with assignments, reviews work, work schedules; maintains standards; monitors field staff on the status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Responds to Customers' requests and or complaints for proper resolution.
  • Assists with the development of work schedules and coordinates work assignments
  • Inspects and evaluates the condition of heavy and light equipment to ensure every item is clean, safe, and in proper working order for users. Coordinates all repairs and related corrective measures with Water Plant Superintendent.
  • May operate pick-up truck, forklift, vehicles of all types and various other hand tools and equipment as required.
  • Assists in development, update and lead field staff of preventive maintenance procedures for equipment.
  • Assists with the preparations and coordination of all activities pertaining to hurricanes/storms.
  • Handles emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates in the training and or cross training of the department's personnel.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Typical Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience using specialized equipment (crane truck, dump truck, backhoe, tractor, skid steer, etc.) or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state CDL Class B, with an acceptable driving history
  • One (1) year of experience in water treatment plant equipment repair, and maintenance procedures or equivalent experience in equipment maintenance.
  • Must have some practical experience in the operation management of CMMS systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Work Environment and Work Hours KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the practices and methods of the operation of heavy equipment used the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the understanding of the processes, policies and procedures in working within in a Water Treatment Plant environment.

  • Skill in the use and care of vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in directing and assigning work to others.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to take oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to understand and communicate safety procedures.
  • Ability to advise City personnel about work and make good judgment calls.
  • Knowledge of all MS Office programs and related computer software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
    • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
    • Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
    • Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.

WORK HOURS
  • Monday - Friday 7am- 3:30pm (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City.)
