The Welder II works from specifications, drawings, weld symbols, and written instructions; prepares and completes work by welding, cutting, grinding, and sanding.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Sets up parts for welding using hand tools including clamps, jigs, and fixtures.
- Welds products using handheld welding equipment utilizing approved welding procedures for the processes of FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
- Prepares and completes work on materials by cutting, grinding, and sanding metal using power hand tools.
- Checks finished work to make sure it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints.
- Reads, fabricates, and welds from drawings, specifications, diagrams or schematics.
- Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Tags all final products with identification.
- Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
- Operates overhead crane when needed.
- Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
- Follows strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
- Welds components in all positions including 1G, 2G and 3G.
RequirementsREQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational, technical or trade school training a plus.
- 3 - 5 years' experience in various forms of welding.
- Training and experience using GTAW, FCAW & GMAW welding.
- Successful completion of an internal welding test.
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding.
- Ability to work from drawings and follow written instructions.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and background check.
