Visit our website at Status: Non-ExemptApproved Date: 3/8/18Job Title: Mig/Tig WelderDepartment: ProductionSummary Welds together metal components of products such as steel bar, steel and aluminum details, fabrications, and plates along with many other weldments using mig/tig welding equipment by performing the following duties.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assignedObtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.Starts power supply to produce electric current.Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.Cleans or degreases weld joint or workpiece.Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.Preheats workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace.Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.Tacks assemblies together.CompetenciesTo perform the job successfully, an individual will need to perform the following competencies.Quantity of WorkThe quantity of work produced and the promptness with which it is completed.Quality of WorkThe ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.Judgement/Knowledge of JobKnowledge of job, techniques, skills, equipment, procedures, materials, etc.Attendance/DependabilityPunctuality and attendance.Teamwork/ AttitudeWillingness and cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.Initiative/IndependenceThe degree to which an employee searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.Adherence to PolicyFollow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.Adherence to SafetyFollow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
