Welders are responsible for repairing containers, fleet vehicles, compactor repairs in shop atmosphere and assisting with compactor installations in the field, along with other weldable materials by applying appropriate techniques and using various welding devices. This includes fabricating, sanding, grinding, cutting, torching, drilling, welding and/or repair work on company containers, compactors, and placing of containers or compactor equipment. Level of responsibility an repair work may vary by location. Responsibilities of Position:
- Perform sanding, grinding, cutting, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Grinds metal parts after welding.
- Welds steel using MIG and ARC welding equipment.
- Fabricates steel components on containers.
- Cut steel using a plasma cutter, torch or nibbler.
- Perform related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing computer system.
- Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment.
- Installs lids, wheels and lock setups on containers.
- Paints repaired and/or new containers.
- May assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, coworkers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas).
- Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of MIG/ARC and stick welding.
- Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter.
- Knowledge of small shop tools.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and fumes as found in a repair or fabrication facility.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
