Job Description Under the direction of the Production Plant Manager, monitor the shop welders' performance, support field service repairs, responsible for new hire training and certifying also additional training to shop employees, support production by troubleshooting daily shop issues and providing input to Engineering regarding design for manufacturability. Interviews and tests potential welders. Also responsible for programming the weld robots and training personnel on the robots. As an AWS Certified Welding Inspector and authorized inspection agent of Manitowoc, the Technical Training Coordinator is also responsible for conducting production and field inspections to AWS D1.1 standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee training for welders from established curriculum, test welders to minimum quality specifications, certify and assist with development of new curriculum.
- Help interview - Potential Welders test written and welding - grade tests and make recommendation
- Backup for plant supervisors - when they are not available.
- Review and analyze welder certification and PQR weld specimens with Weld Engineer.
- Lead cross functional teams to drive quality and cost improvements.
- Write Welding Instructions for new product and field work.
- Assist production supervision as necessary to improve weld quality at Port Washington.
- Assist with review of preliminary Engineering designs for manufacturability improvements and review weld joint design for AWS D1.1 code compliance.
- Review rejected product with Processing and assist with writing rework process to restore defective or damaged product to specifications.
- Travel, when required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- High School Diploma. Degree or Certificate in Welding or Manufacturing from Technical School or College is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years welding experience required.
- Candidate must be qualified (or get qualified within 12 months' time) in all Manitowoc welding processes.
- AWS CWI and CWE are required (or get qualified within 2 years' time). MT/PT qualification is a plus.
- Must be able to use and understand Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, excellent personal management and organizational skills.
- Experience in the crane industry or heavy equipment preferred.
- Travel requirements up to 5%
