We are currently looking for a Full Time WIC Nutrition Specialist I to join our WIC Clinic Unit 3 team located at the Sulphur WIC Clinic working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr. Summary: Assesses the nutrition and health status of applicants for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) based upon income and nutrition assessment guidelines. Responsibilities: * Determines nutritional risk by obtaining weight, height, and hemoglobin levels by performing finger stick puncture and completing an interview, assessment and accurately documenting required health information into the MIS certification system* Determines when referral to appropriate Health professional, DHS, and or Family Services is appropriate* Determines and prescribes the appropriate food package tailored to the nutritional needs of the client* Processes computer generated electronic food benefits, distribute electronic benefit card to eligible participants and document issuance of the electronic benefit card* Determines appropriate nutrition education lessons and materials for participants* Recognizes and reports potential cases of fraud or abuse of program integrity* Follow Principles of Influence throughout interactions with client* Counsels participants on their identified nutritional needs using Heart Button motivational counseling techniques and be able to refer to the nutritionist for high-risk nutrition counseling as appropriate* Promotes breastfeeding as the optimal method of infant feeding and offer breastfeeding support and education to prenatal and postpartum women by working in close communication with the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor* Travels to various WIC sites as needed independently conduct program operations at remote satellite clinics as assigned* Reconciles the electronic benefits issued daily and all other daily reports as well as completion of monthly reports in a timely manner as specified by the State WIC Agency* Cross trains and be proactive with the team in efforts to assist in clinic flow and serving clients* Directs to appropriate resources* Serves as role model by modeling healthy behaviors* Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types- Answers questions in a courteous and professional manner- Partners with internal and external services as needed to ensure appropriate referral is made- Greets and engages with a smile- Determines needs, seeks positive experience and outcomes* Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities* Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types- Maintains general upkeep of work area and maintains a safe environment- Maintains and promotes professionalism- Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics- Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards* Maintains knowledge of and follows all laws, rules, regulations, policies and SOPs for assigned area, e.g. MICS, TICS, hospital standards, health codes, food sanitation, accounting principles, etc.* Performs all other duties as assigned Competencies: Essential:* Demonstrated ability to use Heart Button motivational strategies in counseling sessions with clients* Able to follow instructions, both written and oral * Able to adhere to all scheduling and attendance requirements* Must be able to exert analytical and critical thinking skill* Honesty, truthfulness, reliability, accountability* Able to read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of Chickasaw Nation, departmental, divisional and all other rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines* Knowledge of the role nutrition plays in health maintenance* Ability to listen to clients and respond with compassion* Ability to learn the principles of persuasion* Able to verbally communicate in a professional and positive manner with other team members, departments, guests and management Skills: Essential:* Basic Computer skills Experience: Nonessential:* 4 years directly related experience Education: Essential:* High School, GED or Equivalent Nonessential:* Bachelors Degree in directly related field Essential:* Bachelor's degree in a nutrition or education related field or high school diploma with 4 years' experience in a nutrition related field Credentials: Essential:* Pass general background check* Breastfeeding Educator Certification* Standard Driver's License Essential:* Must complete and pass the WIC Nutrition Training Course (72 hours classroom; 80% passing score; 2 months on the job training) Working Conditions: Essential:* Works in an office setting* Pass pre-employment drug test* Travel is primarily within Chickasaw Nation boundaries
