DescriptionThe Wilderness and Group Camping Director at YMCA Camp Hi-Rock provides year-round leadership for the Boys Outdoor Leadership Development (BOLD) and Girls Outdoor Leadership Development (GOLD) programs, group camping, and summer camp operations. The role emphasizes fostering growth, retention, and innovative programming while ensuring a safe and supportive environment that respects and welcomes all participants. Key responsibilities include supervising daily operations, training staff, ensuring compliance with safety and accreditation standards, managing relationships with local organizations, and contributing to community outreach and YMCA events.Requirements

• Age and Education: Minimum 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience:
  • At least two seasons in summer resident camp or similar settings.
  • Two years of experience developing and implementing youth programs, preferably in wilderness trip programs and ropes course management.
• Certifications:
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen Administration.
  • Challenge course operator/manager and Wilderness First Responder certifications.
  • Lifeguard certification required; Open Water Rescue preferred.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification (within 18 months of hire).
• Skills:
  • Strong written and oral communication, including with parents of children aged 4-16.
  • Leadership and staff development expertise.
  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and WordPress.
• Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift/move 25-50 pounds.
  • Navigate rough terrain and work long active hours during the summer season.
