VACANCY INFORMATION:

Preference will be given for prior Wildlife Enforcement experience, post-certification and knowledge of Grand Isle.

This position is domiciled in Jefferson Parish.

Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rules or policy. If you do not have a score prior to applying to this posting, it may result in your application not being considered.

This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Wildlife Enforcement Cadet, Wildlife Enforcement Agent or Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the

candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.

SUPPLEMENT INFORMATION:

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.

This position is located in the Enforcement Division within the Office of the Secretary. The incumbent of this position will assist in addressing the challenges of recruiting and retaining a diverse and effective workforce. This includes, but not limited to, identifying and attracting talent from a diverse pool, ensuring every candidate is treated fairly, verifying that the application and screening process is bias-free, working closely with human resources, participate in establishing policies that enhance the agency's hiring process and indirectly supervising personnel responsible for other talent acquisition functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Six months of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement as a Wildlife Enforcement Cadet in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment.

Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.

NOTE:

This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To provide the enforcement patrol component in support of major programs for fish, game, wildlife, ecosystem, and boating safety regulations for the protection and sustainability of wildlife/fisheries resources and public safety within an assigned area or for a statewide specialized enforcement unit in an on-the-job training capacity.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Close from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant, Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Training Academy staff, or higher-level Wildlife Enforcement personnel who are Field Training Officers during FTO program.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Cadet by the absence of training in an academy setting.

Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent by the absence of performing the full range of field enforcement work and by the supervision received.Investigates/conducts law enforcement activities designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services.

Checks hunters and fishermen for equipment, limits and license compliance.

Assists other law enforcement agencies in the apprehension of criminals.

Investigates complaints of alleged violations.

Provides search and rescue response services.

Provides information to the public regarding wildlife/fisheries conservation and boating safety.

Investigates boating incidents.

Trains for certification in defensive driving, first responder, hunter/boating education instructor, police boat operation, firearms, defense tactics, boating crash investigation, field survival, enforcement of wildlife/fisheries/boating laws, as well as other state criminal code.
