The NC Wildlife Resources Commission's Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina's wildlife resources and habitats and provide programs and opportunities for hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for enforcing N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws.

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division employs approximately 224 Wildlife Officers who patrol fields, forests, and inland waters at all hours in all 100 North Carolina counties. These officers ensure public compliance with fishing, wildlife, and boating laws and regulations, enforce the conservation of wildlife resources, and provide public safety through proactive law enforcement and the instruction of quality education.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for a Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer III for our Law Enforcement Division in Cumberland Co. Duties of a Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer include such activities as patrolling fields, forests, and inland waters via automobiles, boats, ATVs, and on foot; reporting to a Sergeant and patrolling a district either alone or as part of a patrol; checking licenses of hunters and fisherman and examining the game or fish taken to determine compliance with the applicable laws and regulations and seizing illegal hunting and fishing devices and all game and fish taken illegally.

Officers are also responsible for investigating violations, arresting violators and presenting court testimony; investigating conditions and recommending whether to issue permits to private citizens to raise game or fish in captivity or to trap and net game or fish; checking boats for proper certification and boating equipment and observing boat operation for detection and apprehension of reckless or impaired operators and wills will assist in search and rescue operations for the victims of boating accidents or for lost hunters and anglers. Other duties are assigned as needed.

This position is HOME-BASED and requires that the applicant reside in Cumberland County at the time employment begins. Residence outside Cumberland County (within 15 miles of Cumberland County by vehicle) must be requested, and WRC approved. A rotating shift schedule is associated with this position which involves working Monday-Sunday, with two days off per week (minimum of 160 work hours per 28-day period.) This position is subject to callback 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both night work and overnight travel are required on occasion. This position requires weekend and holiday work.Required Competencies, Work History, and Credentials must appear in the application to receive consideration during the selection process. Qualified Applicants must possess:

* Experience as a certified NC Law Enforcement Officer;

* Knowledge of NC game, fish and boating law;

* Ability to operate law enforcement vehicles and equipment.

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

* Current NC Justice Education and Training Standards Law Enforcement Certification. Applicants are required to meet all NCJETS requirements and complete all appropriate documentation following North Carolina Administrative Code (12 NCAC 09C .0306) before employment.

* Certification as a NC Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.

* Applicants are required to reside (be domiciled) in Cumberland County at the time employment begins. Applicants who desire to reside no more than 15.0 miles outside Cumberland County as driven in a patrol vehicle to the nearest point in the assigned duty station must submit this request at the time of application.

* All offers of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre- and post-employment evaluations.

Physical Requirements:
