Position Summary:The Resident Service Assistant (RSA) provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) related to personal care and hygiene to Windsor Court residents under the direction of an RN. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, residents, nurses and employees. Serves as a point of contact for the department after hours.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS H.S. Diploma/GED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS ANSI Accredited Food Handler Certification Illinois within 30 days. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Hands-on experience in providing care for an elderly population. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or One (1) year experience as a caregiver
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Competency in taking manual blood pressure, blood sugar monitoring, and overseeing nebulizer treatments. If not fully proficient, has the capacity to learn and retain the necessary skills for these patient care procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with the residents, families and interdisciplinary team. Self-motivated and positive attitude, ability to work independently. Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others.
Essential Functions:
- Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meal/activity escorts, activity reminders, medication reminders, etc.
- Assist residents in preparing for transportation, outings, and appointments in a timely manner.
- Responds to resident pendant calls immediately and appropriately, requesting additional RSA or nursing assistance as needed. Contact the family and completes an incident report when applicable.
- Capable of checking manual blood pressures and blood glucose levels, recording results and following up according to guidelines prescribed for that resident.
- Demonstrates competency in the following areas: Measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, catheter care, ostomy care, nebulizer care, and medication reminders.
- Documents all care tasks in a timely manner.
- Provides progress notes on residents.
- Reports both staff and resident incidents and accidents to nurse, manager and Online Event Reporting.
- Participates in emergency drills and actual occurrences according to emergency response protocols maintain resident safety and comfort.
- Reports any changes in a resident's condition to the nurse and/or manager.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions. Completes mandatory training requirement per Carle Hospital and IDPH in the expected timeframe.
- Acts as a mentor to new Resident Service Assistants and contributes to the orientation and training of staff at Windsor Court.
