Wine Director for Michelin-Starred Restaurant - San Francisco $120,000 - $140,000

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 base salary, plus a $10,000 annual bonus

Location: San Francisco, California

Start Date: No later than March 2025

About the Role

  • We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Wine Director to lead the wine program for a beautiful Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco.
  • This is a hands-on role, requiring a visionary leader to curate an exceptional wine list, enhance guest experiences, and drive the beverage program to new heights.
  • The ideal candidate will bring 2-3 Michelin-star experience, coupled with a natural flair for delivering outstanding guest interactions and managing a world-class wine offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Wine Director will oversee and manage all aspects of the wine program, including procurement, inventory, and cost management.
  • They will create a thoughtfully curated wine list that complements the restaurant's Michelin-starred cuisine while collaborating closely with the culinary team to design innovative and harmonious food and wine pairings.
  • They will train, mentor, and inspire the front-of-house team to elevate their wine knowledge and service skills. The role includes engaging with guests, offering expert recommendations to enhance their dining experience, and maintaining a visible presence on the floor to ensure exceptional service.
  • The Wine Director will uphold and enhance the restaurant's reputation for offering a world-class wine experience.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have 2-3 Michelin-star experience or a background in luxury hotels with an emphasis on beverage programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of wine, with certifications such as Advanced Sommelier or Master Sommelier, is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have a charismatic and approachable leadership style, with a strong focus on guest engagement.
  • They must possess exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering world-class service. Proven experience managing budgets, optimizing wine revenue, and controlling beverage costs effectively is essential.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a passion for wine and hospitality is a must.
