Job Description: The Women's and Gender Center (WGC) focuses on advancing Champlain College's commitment to diversity, equity, community, and inclusion by serving as a central resource on issues related to gender, sexual orientation, culture, and inclusivity. The WGC provides information and education for students to find community in a safe and supportive environment with a focus on three major values. These values include women's empowerment, gender identity education and sexual violence education and prevention. To further these initiatives, the WGC partners with students, staff, and faculty to create and advocate for campus-wide educational programs and intercultural engagement. This is a 12 month, full time position in the Division of Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion. The successful candidate will have passion and experience in supporting students in the three major initiatives of the WGC:
  • Women's empowerment/leadership development.
  • Gender identity and sexual orientation education/support.
  • Sexual violence education/support/prevention.
WGC Program Coordinator will be the lead professional staff in the Center and will work to foster community and support for all students through a women's and LGBTQ+ lens. This position will work to achieve departmental, divisional and institutional goals. Responsibilities:
  • Proactively seeks to identify the developing needs of women and LGBTQ+ students and establish priorities and strategies in collaboration with Student Affairs leadership to best serve these populations.
  • Supervise the Center and 4-6 student staff in the facilitation of social/education programming.
  • Advising, mentoring and student support services are key components of this position.
  • Facilitate the education of student leaders, staff and faculty in alignment with the Center's mission in areas of but not limited to women's, LGBTQ+ and sexual violence prevention initiatives.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to foster positive and productive relationships with students, faculty and staff as well as local resources.
  • Evening and weekend hours are required.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge base and interest in women's empowerment and education.
  • Experience working with LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Must be comfortable working with sexual violence awareness and prevention efforts in support of the College's Title IX efforts.
  • Experience providing educational and social programming is preferred.
  • Experience working in a higher education or community-based setting is preferred.
