Title: Instructor CPE - Career Pathway ExperienceQualifications: An Associate's degree and three years of work experience in an area appropriate to the teaching assignment. Must hold a valid Mississippi teaching certificate with an endorsement to teach Career Pathway Experience. Valid secondary occupational Mississippi Educator License. Must successfully complete the CPE certification and online learning certification workshop, module or course that is approved by Mississippi Department of Education.Desirable: Bachelor degree with endorsement to teach Career Pathway Experience, valid secondary occupational Mississippi Educator License; CPE Certification and/or 5 years work experience in the area appropriate to the teaching assignment.Reports To: Director of Vocational DepartmentJob Goal: To supervise vocational students and to plan appropriate curriculum programsMission and Goals
  • To collaborate with school and community stakeholders to strengthen student engagement in college and career exploration and guide students to successfully transition from school to college and/or the workforce.
General Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned classes according to Board policies. Strengthen the development of core academic skills through application. Allow students to explore career options and assist in job placement. Enhance students' communication skills, leadership, and problem solving. Build a partnership with business and industry, and the community. Make regular visits or sufficient communication to work-sites. Perform and coordinates all activities and tasks needed for success in teaching, coordinating guidance and counseling, public relations, and administration of this program. Develop a training agreement with the student, parent or guardian, instructor, employer and school administrator. Develop a training plan with the student, training sponsor and instructor. Help find internships for CPE students and prepare them for these opportunities through mock interviews, resume building, application process, and mastering soft skills Supervise students at work-site and communicate effectively with employers Establish and collaborate with an advisory committee Maintain records for each student participation in the CPE program. Evaluate the CPE program for effectiveness by following-up with employers after internships, as well as follow-up with students after high school graduation. Introduce careers for traditional and non-traditional students in early and middle grade levels; Assist students in the transition to college, advancing training, military or workforce upon graduation; Strengthen students' awareness and interest in the CTC's opportunities to enhance their skill-set and further explore their career(s) of interest. Involve local businesses and the community with student career exploration through career fairs, internships, job shadowing, speaking, etc. Participate in the establishment and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes. Place graduates in full-time positions, or referrals for additional instruction, and follow-up of graduates 1 year after graduation. Set aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance (minimum of 6 hours per week required). Attend professional development training and reach out to other CPE Coordinators and Coaches through PLC meetings to gain knowledge and share experience that will further improve the program and its effectiveness for our students.
Terms of Employment: 187 DaysThe salary established by the Board.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
