Job SummaryThe Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)-Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Department (CTAE) is recruiting for an experienced Work-based Learning Support Specialist. This position will support the school system's CTAE/Work-based Learning programs in Southwest GA with the inclusion and success of students in danger of not graduating. This is a strategy of the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) in the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Department (CTAE) and is designed to address two major needs in Georgia: the high dropout rate of high school students and the under-prepared workforce. This initiative works to establish and grow partnerships in communities across the state that empower and equip students in danger of not graduating complete high school while gaining real-world job skills and experience, creating a path to personal success and the workforce of the future, giving both urban and rural high school students the skills and support they need to graduate high school and become active members of Georgia's workforce and economy. The WBL Support Specialist will work under the direction of the State Coordinator of Great Promise Partnership to provide the day-to-day duties needed to assure the ongoing success of the program in their region and support efforts of growing the initiative statewide. The job responsibilities include but not limited to:Description of Duties* Work with school districts and schools to promote and implement WBL programs, concentrating on at-risk students* Maintain and support policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices to effectively govern sites* Develop and present information about the initiative to regional stakeholders* Engage local chambers of commerce and business groups to secure business and community commitment* Work with potential regional business/agency leadership to establish job placement commitment* Ensure mentoring and life skills training are available for every at-risk student* Work with site personnel on design and implementation* Work with and support efforts of Work-based Learning Coordinators and School Counselors at schools to identify students and local job opportunities* Be a resource and expert on any aspect of the program* Respond to problems promptly and appropriately, provide support and resources for each established program in region to ensure model integrity, risk management and success, including site visits* Develop solutions to problems in consultation with the GPP State Coordinator and other staff members* Be the go-to resource for local communities in your region regarding employment of at-risk high school students* Contribute to reports, newsletters, website content, press releases, brochures and other documents promoting WBL* Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and other events focused on educational issues, workforce development, mentoring and other topics relevant to the initiative as these are identified* Participate in workshops, seminars, or other public meetings (or electronic meetings) to explain, promote, or provide training for the initiative* Plan and participate in student events and activities* Be a valued member of the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Department (CTAE).* Other duties as assigned by the GPP State CoordinatorPreferred QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:* Background in education and workforce development* Experience in CTAE and Work-based Learning is a must* Professional experience working with at-risk teenagers* Knowledge of social services available to youth and families, including services for low-income families or individuals* Familiarity with the Georgia business community is a plus* Flexibility and a can-do attitude are necessary attributesThere is one available position in the following region:1- Southwest Georgia region (Counties: Sumter, Dooly, Crisp, Daugherty, Marion, Muscogee, Bibb, Monroe, and others as they develop. WBL Support Specialist must live in the regions for which they serve. This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta.
