ARCHITECTURE - Workshop Associate

Job Classification

Position summary

The Workshop Associate will perform supervision and maintenance of the Carscallen Mission Workshop and provide assistance in small woodworking and construction projects for the School of Architecture and Interior Design. This position requires technical competence in woodworking, construction, shop equipment maintenance and repair, and general shop management.

Qualifications summary

* Familiarity with digital fabrication

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

* Supervise usage of the Carscallen Mission Workshop. Users will include both students and faculty/ staff.

* Demonstrate and teach safe practices when using the workshop. Uphold these standards as a requirement for usage of the shop.

* Ensure a safe and clean learning environment is provided in the workshop.

* Oversee machine maintenance and repair.

* Manage student workers.

* Manage small projects as requested by the School of Architecture & Interior Design. Examples might include furniture repair or building maintenance.

* Assist faculty and/or students with educational projects. Examples might include providing guidance for a student constructing a wood model or cutting model bases for a class.

Supervisory responsibilities

* Manage student workers as requested by the School of Architecture and Interior Design.

* Provide general supervision of anyone who uses the workshop.

Qualifications

* Commitment to Christ, personal spiritual maturity, and an exemplary character.

* Must be proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently at times.

* Woodworking experience.

* Construction experience preferred.

* Shop management experience preferred.

* Experience or education in architecture or interior design desired.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

* Machine maintenance and repair experience.

* Experience in digital fabrication and CNC programming preferred.

Interpersonal interactions

* Must be comfortable interacting with and guiding students in a shop environment.

* Must be able to work with faculty to provide workshop-related support for courses at times.

Physical demands

* Must be able to lift 60 pounds.

* Must be able to safely climb ladders and work at heights of 15' above ground.

Work environment

* The workshop will routinely have high noise levels.
